Growing up next to a sports centre is a sure way to encourage the incorporation of sports into your lifestyle. It's no surprise, then, that sports have been a major inspiration in Wael's life. He sees it as vital for physical, mental and spiritual well- being.
Wael represented his school at football, basketball, swimming, track and field, as well as tennis. He was selected for the Under-14 UAE national tennis team competing in the GCC championships held in Kuwait in 1990.
While in Scotland, Wael discovered the art of boxing, winning a silver medal in the Inter Scottish Universities boxing championship. A greater interest in the martial arts grew from this, and he has since studied a number of other arts. He is a proud graduate of Geoff Thompson's 2009 Masterclass (www.geoffthompson.com), certifying him as a Level One Self Defense instructor. Wael is currently studying the Japanese grappling martial art of Judo at Dubai Judokai Club, under the tutelage of Sensi Uenda and Sensi Ashraf.
Wael is on the board of the pioneering all-Emirati UAE Rugby Association, the body responsible for organizing and nurturing all aspects of the sport of rugby in the United Arab Emirates, www.uaera.ae. |
